LINKS TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF CHILDMINDERS -
DirectgovKids is a new website which aims to help young children understand their world and the world around them in a fun and interactive way. It makes learning in school engaging and encourages learning at home too.
Online activities and educational games for 5 to 11 year olds cover topics such as healthy eating and keeping fit, children's rights and responsibilities, voting and democracy, online safety and looking after pets.
Children explore interactive buildings which contain the online activities and games, as well as animations and slideshows. For example, they can go to the school building to make a healthy school meal or to the town hall to find out about children's rights.
In the stadium, they'll train for a sporting event, and in the internet café will learn how to stay safe online. They can even visit the Houses of Parliament on a secret mission or play a judge and decide what to do with children who have been misbehaving.
Younger children will enjoy looking after Buster the police dog in the police station
